It was decided that Maria should leave the convent for a year to go to the Trapp Villa to work as a governess for the captain's daughter who lay in bed with rheumatic fever. Maria came to the von Trapp family in 1926 as a tutor for one of the children, Maria, who was recovering from scarlet fever, not as governess to all the children.
